ClockSync is free software for Windows that keeps your computer's clock accurate. It does this by automatically synchronizing your clock to the official time kept by the NIST — National Institute of Standards and Technology (http://nist.time.gov).
You can manually synchronize your clock at any time by running ClockSync from your Start menu (typically in Start > Programs > ClockSync > ClockSync). If you have chosen to show the ClockSync icon in your Windows system tray, you can click on the icon to start the program.
Note: You must be connected to the Internet to synchronize your clock.
ClockSync is FREE. Since ClockSync is free to use, we need a source of revenue to stay in business — that's where Save! comes in. Save! is free software that shows you contextually relevant offers and information; proceeds from Save! are used to continually support and improve ClockSync and other great software products. When you installed ClockSync you opted-in to install Save! For more information about Save!, click here.
ClockSync synchronizes with the official time kept by the NIST — National Institute of Standards and Technology (http://nist.time.gov). The NIST time is based on a highly accurate atomic clock.
ClockSync can be set to synchronize your clock at intervals ranging from hourly to weekly. To reset your synchronization frequency, click on the Preferences tab, change your preferences, and then choose OK. If you choose to synchronize "Manually," ClockSync will synchronize your clock only when you specifically ask the program to do so by clicking the Sync Clock button.
ClockSync can be set to only synchronize your clock manually at your command. To do this, click on the ClockSync Preferences tab, change your synchronization frequency preference to "Manually" and then click OK.
You can manually synchronize your clock at any time by running ClockSync from your Start menu (typically in Start > Programs > ClockSync > ClockSync). If you have chosen to show the ClockSync icon in your Windows system tray, you can click its icon (a small folder with a clock) to start the program. Your clock will be automatically synchronized as soon as you start ClockSync.
You received ClockSync by either downloading the program directly from the Internet, or by downloading other popular free software from the Internet (such as screensavers or file sharing programs) that also included ClockSync as a bundled application.
There are many possible reasons why your computer's clock might still be inaccurate after installing ClockSync. Some possibilities include:
Your time zone is set incorrectly. If your clock is off by a whole number of hours, your system's time zone may be set incorrectly. To check this, click on the ClockSync tab of the ClockSync application, and then click the Change Time Zone... button. You will be taken to your computer's Windows Time Zone page. Check that the time zone indicated is accurate.
ClockSync has never run successfully. ClockSync can only run when you are connected to the Internet and when the NIST timeservers are reachable. To see if ClockSync has run successfully, click on the ClockSync tab of ClockSync and look for a message that starts with "Your computer's time was last synchronized:" If a date is shown then the synchronization has been successful in the past. If not, wait several hours and try opening ClockSync again.
ClockSync resets your clock, but your local area network overrides your local time. This could be caused by a setting in your office network that resets all local clocks to a standard time. If you would like to override this setting, click on the Preferences tab on ClockSync and set the sync frequency to Hourly.
ClockSync says it synced your clock, but your time is still incorrect. This could be caused if you previously set your ClockSync preference to keep your clock some number of minutes ahead or behind of the accurate time. To check your preferences, open ClockSync, then click on the Preferences tab. Check to see if the section marked "Clock Offset" is set to zero minutes. If not, change to zero, then resync your clock on the ClockSync tab.
There are many possible reasons why your computer's clock might still be inaccurate after installing ClockSync. Some possibilities include:
ClockSync can only synchronize your clock when you are connected to the Internet. Make sure you are connected to the Internet then try closing and re-opening the application.
If you are connected to the Internet and are continuing to receive this message, it may be due to a conflict between ClockSync and your firewall or security software. If you have the ability to manually configure your firewall, make sure that the application "Sync.exe" is permitted to access the Internet.
To remove the ClockSync icon from your system tray, just right-click on the icon and choose Exit. When asked if you would like to permanently remove the icon from your system tray, choose "Yes." Your clock will continue to be synchronized, but the icon will no longer appear.
If you would like to add the icon to your system tray, open ClockSync from your programs menu, click on the Preferences tab, then check the box marked "Show ClockSync in my Windows system tray." Click OK and it should appear.
